Do More Than Talk

Not all Microsoft Team's VoIP is as it seems

The year 2020/21 saw the rise of video and collaboration platforms, helping businesses fulfill the demands of remote working. Many organisations have now started the journey to make such platforms a permanent stay in their businesses, and rightly so.

With Microsoft Teams being the main platform of choice for most, you NEED to understand the below before rolling it out, you may just save a fortune while not diminishing any features at all.

There are many types of Microsoft VoIP integrations and they all seem to be bundled as the same thing from a marketing sense. We will now describe what they are, how they work, and what’s the best option.

  1. What platform are you really using for your phone system when doing this integration?

Some integrations will simply be plugging a hosted VoIP platform into Microsoft Teams, you, therefore, can keep some of your users on Teams and others on your phone system. This can be a great model, but pricey. You will now be paying more, let’s look at it on a per-user basis. You will pay MS for the phone system license, pay for your VoIP license and then pay for the integration aspect. Great solution but can cost significantly more.

2. SIP into Teams

Other integrations will simply use MS Teams as the phone system, then ‘plug in’ SIP channels (VoIP phone lines) per user. This is the most common type of solution and is slightly cheaper as you are not paying for your VoIP phone system license on top. However, you will still need to pay per user to Microsoft and then again per user for your VoIP aspect, which can add up.

3. Saving the Best for Last

Use Microsoft Teams as your phone system, but you don’t have to pay the extra per user to have VoIP. It’s that simple.

Until cloud-based phone systems came around, you never paid per user, you paid per phone line. For example, you could have 30 staff, and you pay for 8 phone lines which power all their phones.

We have now brought this into play for our Team’s customers. You can have as many users as you like, and you simply pay for the number of phone lines (SIP) you’d like to have to power your Microsoft phone system.

They all produce the same result

The good news here is no matter what option you pay for, you will get the same result. Making and receiving calls through Microsoft Teams.
